As an avid reader and longtime Lord of the Rings fan, I was excited to design a custom set of dust jackets for the series. Because there are already so many iconic interpretations of these covers, one of the biggest challenges was creating something that felt distinct while still honoring the source material. I approached the designs as if the books were ancient relics, drawing inspiration from illuminated manuscripts, the original animated film, and Tolkien’s own whimsical illustrations.
The project included custom lettering, illustrated borders, and hidden details pulled from each book. The colors and decorative elements also reference important locations throughout the story. To give the final set a more collectible, special-edition feel, I incorporated embossed and varnished finishes throughout the covers.
